Gymkhana Presentation: Sat 3 Nov 2012

Gymkhana as a central venue with ample off road parking has once again proven to be popular with Chiangmai Golfers and their families turning up in record numbers for the Annual Tournament Function & Prize Presentation with 90 adults plus numerous children who could run free and enjoy themselves, one of whom, Sky Beece celebrated his 8th birthday.  The club set up a stage with karaoke and microphone for the mc and tables for all the guests under the huge & wonderful 100 yr old tree and the weather God smiled down upon us with a clear night and sufficient humidity to ensure all who attended had a good thirst.  Ample food, a keg of Beer and some casks of wine helped feed and water the hungry hoards and while we did manage to get through all the grog of course there was still sufficient food to send some home with doggy bags.
The Committee as usual did a great job in arranging cheap venues for the golf on good courses and organising all four rounds of golf where in most cases the Club Captains Gary & Jack as usual had their hands full even though assisted by other members of the committee, but special mention goes out to Frank for all his good work on handicaps, course groupings and timely, clear and concise result reports. The Gymkhana Club should also be commended for setting everything up and putting on a good spread. Christian our treasurer assures us that they were paid handsomely and tipped appropriately.

Annual Tournament - Gold Canyon 1 Nov 2012

Today we had (45) members and (8) guests participating in the last round of our 2012 Annual Tournament. It appears, based on the large turnout, that numerous golfers hoped to improve their overall standing to qualify as one of this years trophy winners.  Today for various reason, lost on way to golf course, misplaced golf shoes, it was difficult to get groups in order but eventually all worked out as planned. The course was in excellent shape but apparently the greens were hard to read and a bit slow. The weather was fine with some cloud cover at the start but increasingly hot as the day progressed. Apologies go out to those who were stuck with (2) caddies (one in training) as it was reported that this was most inefficient to worthless on the part of the golfers concerned. Regardless it was a great day and the majority if not all enjoyed the golf and social gathering at the 19th hole.

Net Winner: Ken Nader (71)
Runners-up: Chawinee Ongsakul, Lesley Mullen, Bill Johnson (72)

Stableford Winners: Robert Plotnikoff & Yung Beece (36)
Runners-up: Frank Schwarz, Kieran Savage, Marisa Paakkonen, Udom Surin, Scott Paakkonen (35)

Once again the '36 system' of handicapping resulted in numerous ties

Last but not least thanks goes out to all the participants who made this years tournament a success and we look forward meeting again this coming Saturday for the Prize Presentation and Annual Dinner.
